The Golden State Warriors took care of business on Thursday night, beating the Boston Celtics 103-90 in decisive Game 6 to win the 2022 NBA Champions. The Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry received the NBA Finals MVP award after averaging 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game in the postseason.
This was Golden State’s fourth title in eight years, but there is a sense that it will be one they’ll appreciate the most. Before the 2021-22 campaign, most people believed the Warriors’ dynasty belonged to the past. After all, they have missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons after losing in the 2019 NBA Finals while their star players struggled to remain healthy.
However, the Warriors were not discouraged. With their original All-Star trio – Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green – together on the floor again, Golden State got to a 53-29 record in the regular season and then proceeded to dismantle their playoff opponents. The Denver Nuggets went down in five games, the Memphis Grizzlies in six, the Dallas Mavericks in five, and finally, the Celtics in six.
“This one is definitely different because of the three years of baggage we carried coming out of that Game 6 in 2019,” Curry said. “I can say it now, I don’t know how many teams could carry that as long as we have with the expectations of comparing us now to teams of past and make it to the mountaintop again.”
