After leading Virginia Cavaliers to the national championship last week, guard Ty Jerome has his eyes set on a bigger goal now. Jerome declared on Monday that he would forgo his senior year of college and enter the 2019 NBA Draft.
Jerome announced his decision via Instagram video.
“After talking to my family, coaching staff and thinking about it a lot, I’ve decided to forgo my senior year of college and declare for the 2019 NBA draft,” – said Jerome in the video. “From Day 1, I always dreamed about playing at this level since I picked up a basketball, playing in the ACC, playing against Duke and [North] Carolina. This program was everything I could have possibly dreamed of.”
“Thank you to Coach Bennett,” – he added. “Thank you to all my amazing teammates. Thank you to my family. And thank you, fans. I will always be a Wahoo.”
Ty Jerome averaged 13.6 points per game in the 2019 regular season while bumping his number to 16.5 points during the NCAA tournament. He played a big part in Virginia’s 85-77 overtime win against Texas Tech in the national title game when he dropped 16 points while dishing eight assists and adding six rebounds.
Jerome is projected to be a late first-round pick, with some mock drafts projecting him as 22nd overall pick to the Boston Celtics while others have him ending up with the San Antonio Spurs as the 29th overall pick.
