After convincing newly acquired defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to take a pay cut, Minnesota Vikings are now trying to do the same with offensive tackle Riley Reiff. However, it appears that the Vikings are not in the business of asking nicely.

According to The Athletic’s Chad Graff, Vikings told Reiff that he can choose between having his contract reconstructed and being released. The 31-year-old player reportedly has to make his choice in the following few days.

Reiff currently has two years left on his five-year, $58.75 million deal he signed with Minnesota Vikings back in 2017. He is set to earn a base salary of $10.9 million in 2020 and $11.65 million in 2021 according to the deal.

It’s unclear how big of a pay cut Minnesota requested from Reiff, but it’s believed that the number is significant. The team will clear $8.7 million in cap space this year if they end up releasing him.

Riley Reiff was Detroit Lions’ first-round pick in 2012 and spent the first five years of his career with the franchise. After failing to agree on a contract extension with Lions, Reiff decided to stay in NFC North and ink a deal with Vikings.

Since joining Minnesota, Reiff started 43 games for the organization as a left tackle.
