Ameer Abdullah didn’t even manage to hit the free market after being waived by Detroit Lions on November 6th, since Minnesota Vikings jumped on the opportunity and claimed the 25-year-old off waivers the very next day.

The Vikings confirmed the news on Wednesday, announcing that they have also waived RB Roc Thomas in a corresponding move.

Lions decided to move on from Ameer Abdullah even though he was their leading rusher in 2017. In 2018, however, he saw his role being diminished after the team drafted Auburn’s Kerryon Johnson in the second round of this year’s draft while also signing LeGarrette Blount. Abdullah ended up suiting up for just three games this season and having only one rushing attempt.

It remains unclear how much more playing time will Ameer Abdullah get with the Minnesota Vikings. The team will most likely use him as a third option behind 2017’s second-round pick Dalvin Cook, who recovered from his injury, and Pro Bowler Latavius Murray.

Ameer Abdullah was selected 54th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He played a total of 35 games over four years and has carried the ball 327 times for 1,251 yards and six touchdowns.
