Veteran running back Giovani Bernard announced his retirement from football on Friday. Bernard walks away after playing 10 seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bernard made the announcement via multiple posts shared on Twitter.

“As I look forward, I’m excited for the newness ahead,” wrote Bernard. “New challenges to face and new adventures to take. What a ride it’s been, but what a ride is to come. Thankful for you all. Much love!”

Bernard was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He had 1,209 yards and eight touchdowns from scrimmage in his rookie season, earning a PFWA All-Rookie Team spot. The North Carolina product went on to play seven more seasons in Cincinnati before leaving to sign with the Bucs ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Bernard didn’t play a prominent role with Tampa Bay, as injuries limited him to 20 games across the past two seasons. He finished 2022 with only 28 yards rushing on eight attempts.

In his 10 seasons as a pro, Bernard rushed for 3,783 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also has 367 catches for 2,989 yards and 14 TDs on his resume.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
