The Baltimore Ravens bolstered their pass rush this week by adding free agent outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney. The Ravens made the deal official on Friday, and Clowney took part in the team practice a day later.

The Ravens didn’t reveal the details of the deal, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Clowney inked a one-year deal that is worth $2.5 million. The veteran pass rusher could earn a total of $6 million based on incentives.

Clowney spent the last two years with the Cleveland Browns. He was one of the team’s best players on defense in 2021, finishing the campaign with 9.0 sacks. However, he followed that with an underwhelming 2022 season that saw him only get 2.0 sacks.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh praised Clowney during a press conference on Saturday and added that he believes 2014’s first overall pick is “a little underrated as a pass rusher.”

“He is a tough, hard-nosed, throws-his-body-around kind of player,” Harbaugh said. “We played against him so many times. We understand how he plays, and we’re excited to have him.”

Clowney isn’t expected to be a starter for the Ravens, but his experience might prove crucial for the team down the stretch. Baltimore currently has 2021’s first-round selection and second-year edge rusher Odafe Oweh penciled as starters at the linebacker position.
