In a move that probably didn’t surprise anyone, the New England Patriots reunited with the veteran linebacker Jamie Collins once again. Collins agreed to a deal with the Pats on Wednesday, setting the stage for his third stint with the franchise.

The news was confirmed by Collins’ agent David Canter on social media.

Collins became a free agent in late September after the Lions couldn’t find a way to trade him. He started the first two games of the 2021 NFL season but was a healthy scratch in the next two. Reportedly, Detroit’s coaching staff wasn’t satisfied with 31-year-old’s play in coverage while also wanting to make room for their younger players.

There should be a different scenario for Collins in New England, where he is expected to play a prominent role. He will most likely be slotted right behind Pro Bowler Donta Hightower and veteran Kyle Van Noy on the depth chart.

Jamie Collins started his NFL career with the Patriots, who selected him in the second round of the 2016 draft. He spent four years with the franchise and won one Super Bowl ring before departing in the free agency to sign with the Cleveland Browns. Collins returned to New England for the second time in 2019 for a one-year stint.
