Ivory Coast’s Salomon Kalou won’t be coming to MLS after all. Instead, the 34-year-old forward opted to head to Brazil and join Botafogo.

In a recent interview, Kalou talked about his wish to play in the United States, and it seemed he’s interested in making a move to Major League Soccer once his contract with Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin expires. However, just two days after that happened, Botafogo announced his capture.

Botafogo was previously linked with several big names, including former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure and ex-Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben. While these moves didn’t materialize, the Brazilian side managed to get Japanese international midfielder Keisuke Honda and now Kalou.

Salomon Kalou built a name for himself with Premier League side Chelsea, where he played 254 games and scored 60 goals in seven seasons. He also helped the team win eight trophies, including Premier League title and UEFA Champions League trophy.

Kalou spent the previous six years with Hertha, while he also played with Lille, Excelsior and Feyenoord.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
