Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Melvin Ingram won’t be staying with the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2022 NFL season. Ingram is reportedly signing a deal with the Miami Dolphins.

Ingram started the last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers but was traded to the Chiefs for a sixth-rounder after a disappointing first half of the campaign. In Kansas City, the 33-year-old player rediscovered some of his past form and racked up 15 tackles, 1.0 sacks, and one forced fumble. He followed this up with 2.0 sacks and four QB hits in the playoffs.

Despite this production, Ingram wasn’t signed in the first wave of free agency. This prompted the Chiefs to place a $4.4 million unrestricted free agent tender on the veteran in early May. Thanks to the tender, Kansas City is now set to receive a compensatory pick.

The addition of Ingram will see Miami’s talented defense get already better. The young unit should benefit from his veteran experience and versatility, considering he can line up as either DE or linebacker.

Melvin Ingram spent the first nine years of his pro career with the Chargers, who took him in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. His career stats include 385 tackles, 51.0 sacks, and 15 forced fumbles. He also has 29 pass deflections.
