USMNT’s midfielder Weston McKennie appears to be on Schalke 04’s exit door. According to multiple reports, McKennie will make a move to the English Premier League this summer.

Schalke finds itself in a tough financial situation, as the Bundesliga side wasn’t part of the European competitions in the past several seasons. In order to stay afloat, the club is forced to sell its talents, and McKennie is believed to be one of their most prized possessions.

Reportedly, McKennie would be available for around $26 million, which was enough to attract the interest of clubs from England. The list of his suitors includes Southampton, Leicester City, and Newcastle United. Southampton appears to be the favorite to land him, but the move depends on the sale of Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile-Hojberg.

According to NBC’s ProSoccerTalk, McKennie would be pleased with such development as a move to the Premier League remains a priority for him.

Weston McKennie joined Schalke in 2016 from FC Dallas’ youth academy and has since played 75 games in Bundesliga, scoring four goals and adding four assists. The 2019/20 was his best as a pro, as he had 32 appearances in all competitions.

Since2017, McKennie has also been part of the United States men’s national team. He has 19 games on an international level, having scored six goals.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
