AFC Bournemouth and United States men’s national team midfielder Tyler Adams will miss the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season after undergoing back surgery.
Bournemouth’s head coach Andoni Iraola revealed Adams’ status during a press conference for the club’s upcoming friendly against EFL League One side Wrexham at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, California. According to Iraola, Adams underwent surgery following USMNT’s exit from 2024 Copa América and isn’t expected to return to action at least until September or October.
“He finished the season with an injury in his back,” Iraola told reporters when asked about Adams. “He wanted to play Copa América because it was very important for him, but he had restrictions and was still in pain, so two days after they were knocked out, he had surgery.”
Adams played 45 minutes in each of the first two USMNT games at Copa América before playing the entire match in the due-or-die third match against Uruguay.
“It is difficult to say how long, but he won’t be fit for the start of the season. But September? October? I don’t know,” Iraola added.
This is another setback for Adams as he is trying to launch his career with Bournemouth. He joined the club in a $25 million transfer last summer, but only managed to make four appearances and play 128 minutes in 2023-24 due to a hamstring injury.
