United States international midfielder Richard Ledezma tore his ACL while playing for PSV Eindhoven in Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League match against Omonia Nicosia. The club confirmed on Friday that the 20-year-old player will undergo “months of rehabilitation” and will be out for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.

Ledezma got hurt early in the first half while trying to keep the ball inbounds. He exited the contest in the 17th minute when it became obvious that he was dealing with a severe injury.

PSV still managed to win the game 4-0 and advance to the knockout stage from the top spot in their group.

“The win tonight was for Richy, because he’s a really good person, really good player, and we all will help him to come back very soon,” said PSV’s manager Roger Schmidt after the game.

The injury comes at an unfortunate moment for Richard Ledezma, as he was just starting to get a more expanded role with PSV this season. He played six games in all competitions while managing to contribute with one assist.

Ledezma also broke into USMNT’s first team, making his debut for the national side last month. He played 22 minutes in a friendly game against Panama and had two assists.
