Premier League side Nottingham Forest is reportedly close to finalizing a transfer for U.S. goalkeeper Matt Turner. According to multiple reports, Forest will pay $9 million to Arsenal for Turner.

The transfer will become official once Turner undergoes his medical early this week.

Turner joined Arsenal last summer in a $7.35 million deal from New England Revolution. However, the 29-year-old player didn’t see much action in 2022-23 as Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta had more faith in Aaron Ramsdale. Turner failed to play a single Premier League game, instead being limited to seven appearances in FA Cup and European competitions.

It is unclear whether Turner will get to be the first choice at Nottingham Forest. The club is reportedly still focused on bringing in Dean Henderson from Manchester United and might see Turner as a high-end backup.

Matt Turner’s lack of playing time with Arsenal didn’t affect his stature as the No. 1 choice for the United States men’s national team. Turner was all-present for USMNT’s 2022 World Cup campaign and also played all matches of the CONCACAF Nations League.

Turner played most of his professional career with Revolution, making his professional debut in 2016. His best campaign came in 2021 when he was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year while also earning MLS All-Star and MLS Best XI honors.
