USMNT star Gio Reyna might be heading towards another lengthy spell on the sidelines. On Friday, Reyna suffered a hamstring injury in Borussia Dortmund’s clash against VfB Stuttgart that forced him to leave the field after just two minutes.

Reyna struggled to remain healthy all season, dealing with a number of injuries. He first suffered a hamstring injury back in September while playing for USMNT in World Cup qualifiers. The 19-year-old player went on to miss five months of action before finally getting back on the field in February with Borussia. Unfortunately, his return only lasted a few games before another hamstring injury sidelined him for several more weeks.

Reyna seemed in good shape after another comeback in mid-March. He helped the USMNT secure a spot in the 2022 World Cup while also playing in five games in Bundesliga. Unfortunately, this latest setback puts him back to square one, and it remains to be seen whether it will result in another prolonged absence from the field. That would certainly be bad news for Borussia, considering they are still very much alive in the Bundesliga title race.

Gio Reyna managed to play only 13 games for Borussia in 2021-22, scoring two goals and providing two assists. His last goal for the national side came in the summer of 2021 in a friendly against Costa Rica.
