USMNT and Juventus star winger Timothy Weah joined the ownership group of Brooklyn FC. The newly-formed soccer club will field the women’s team in the USL Super League in 2024 and the men’s team in the USL Championship in 2025.
The majority owner of Brooklyn FC is North Sixth Group, which holds a stake in a number of low-tier clubs around the world, including Switzerland’s FC Locarno (2. Liga) and Italy’s ASD Campobasso 1919 (Serie D). Besides Weah, the list of Brooklyn FC minority owners includes actor Mark Consuelos and television personality Kelly Ripa.
Weah, who is the son of Liberia’s former soccer star and president George Weah, grew up in Brooklyn and made his first soccer steps there.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to join Brooklyn Football Club’s ownership team and strengthen our connection to the people of New York, the borough I was born in, and the city I love,” Weah said in a statement. “BKFC is a grassroots-oriented club, focused on providing not only top-level professional football but new pathways and opportunities for women and men off the pitch as well.”
Timothy Weah started his professional career with Paris Saint-Germain before making stops at Celtic and Lille. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, Weah secured a transfer to Seria A giants Juventus, signing a five-year contract with the club. He made 35 appearances in all competitions for Juve last season and contributed with one goal and one assist.
Weah is also part of the United States men’s national team, making his senior team debut in 2018. Since then, he made 37 appearances for USMNT and scored five goals.
