If he doesn’t want to play in the Championship, the USMNT star midfielder Brenden Aaronson will have no trouble leaving Leeds United. This is thanks to Aaronson having a relegation release clause in his contract, which was recently reported by the soccer insider Fabrizio Romano.

The release clause kicked in after Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday. This means that any club wanting to sign Aaronson can now simply pay a fixed fee, and Leeds can’t prevent him from leaving if he chooses so.

According to Romano, Aaronson’s teammate and fellow American Weston McKennie will also leave. McKennie returns to Juventus after Leeds didn’t activate their option to turn the loan move into a permanent one.

Brenden Aaronson arrived in Leeds from RB Salzburg in a €32.84 million move this past summer. Aaronson played a strong campaign, appearing in all but two Premier League games and contributing two goals and three assists across all competitions.

It remains to be seen whether Aaronson will stick around in order to help Leeds get back to Premier League or will he opt to move on. The 22-year-old player is expected to have plenty of suitors in the latter case, with a move to another Premier League club or Bundesliga being the most likely option.
