2010 World Cup semi-finalists Uruguay defeated Portugal 2-1 in a World Cup last-16 clash on Saturday.

Countries of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were eliminated during the same day after Messi’s Argentina suffered a 4-3 defeat against France during the earlier game.

PSG striker Edinson Cavani was the star of the day. He put his country ahead during the 7th minute before veteran defender Pepe drew level for Portugal at the 55th minute. Cavani then went on to curl home a superb strike during the 62nd minute.

Uruguay will now play against France on Friday in what promises to be a pulsating encounter. While France is one of the favorites to win the tournament, Uruguay is capable of beating any team if the likes of Cavani and Luis Suarez are able to shine.
