A day after Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea in the Super Cup, UEFA has revealed the three candidates for the prestigious Men’s Player of the Year award for the past 2018-19 season.

The main candidates are Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Virgil Van Dijk while the other candidates from the 4th-10th place are: Alisson Becker, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Eden Hazard, and Raheem Sterling while Frenkie De Jong shares the last place with Matthijs De Ligt.

The Liverpool captain Van Dijk is the favorite for this year’s title due to his contribution to Liverpool’s two UEFA titles (Champions League and Super Cup) and his perfectly played games during the past season both in the Premier League and the Champions League. On the other hand, Messi was the top scorer in the Champions League and La Liga, and he received the European Golden Boot for the best striker because of it.

Cristiano Ronaldo did quite less than the previous seasons by winning the Serie A title in his first season as a Juventus player, as well as the first-ever Nations League trophy with the Portuguese National Team.

The name of the winner will be presented on August 29th in Monaco, during the UCL group stage draw.
