Landon Donovan, arguably the greatest soccer player in United States history, has parted ways with Mexico’s Club Leon. Donovan had a contract until the end of 2018 but decided to leave earlier after not receiving much playing time. The 36-year-old was featured in just five games in 2017–18 Liga MX season, and failed to score a single goal.

Landon Donovan and Club Leon have agreed to part ways and to not validate the signed contract for next season.” – said Club Leon in a statement. “During the time that Landon spent with our team, he has been exemplary in all aspects. The Club loses a legendary professional in the world of sports that leaves an indelible mark in our club.

Landon’s commitment to work with the youth, his humane values, leadership skills and strength to achieve the goals are learnings that we will always treasure.” – the statement continued. “Thank you Landon for the courage and character that you showed us. It has been an honor to be a part of your life and untouchable career. We wish you all the success in future projects that come ahead and we leave the doors of the Club Leon always open for you.”

Landon Donovan signed a deal with Club Leon in January 2018, after being retired from professional soccer for more than a year. This was the second time Donovan came out of retirement. He retired for the first time in 2014 as a member of LA Galaxy, and then came out of the retirement towards the end of 2016 season to play nine games for Galaxy before retiring once again.

During his illustrious career, Landon Donovan won six MLS cups as a member of San Jose Earthquakes, and Galaxy, and four CONCACAF Gold Cups as a member of USMNT.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
