United States international goalkeeper Zack Steffen made his Premier League debut with powerhouse Manchester City on Thursday, being featured in the 2-1 win against Bournemouth in Carabao Cup. And although Steffen didn’t have much work to do for the better part of the game, he still managed to leave a good impression on the club’s manager Pep Guardiola.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Guardiola praised Steffen, saying that the 25-year-old American delivered a “good performance.”

“He made one good action from a counter-attack, and he was calm and safe,” said Guardiola. “He made a good performance.”

Zack Steffen did concede a goal in the 22nd minute, but there was little he could do to prevent Sam Sturridge from scoring. City’s defense allowed Sturridge deep into the penalty box, while also blocking Steffen from having a good look on the ball.

Aside from that, Steffen was composed and had several good interventions, including an impressive sliding tackle outside the box in the second half, with which he prevented Bournemouth to get a clear look on the goal.

Steffen spent the last season on loan with Fortuna Dusseldorf, but City intends to keep him this season as Ederson’s backup. He is expected to play in Cup competitions.
