U.S. international defender Reggie Cannon has a new team. Cannon joined English club Queens Park Rangers, signing a four-year contract with the EFL Championship side.

Cannon was a free agent after leaving Portuguese side Boavista F.C. in June. The 25-year-old player terminated his contract with Boavista after the club failed to pay his wages.

QPR’s manager Gareth Ainsworth didn’t hide his excitement about the move, saying that Cannon will be a “big asset” for the club.

“We have fought off clubs to get him, and I believe Reggie will become a big asset for us,” Ainsworth told QPR’s official website. “He can play on the right side of midfield, as a wing-back and he can play as a right-sided centre-back, so he is going to add real competition for places which is what we need.”

Reggie Cannon made his professional debut with FC Dallas in 2017 and played four seasons in MLS. He secured a move to Boavista in 2020 in a $3.5 million transfer.

Cannon made his United States men’s national team debut in 2018 and has 28 games and one goal to his name. However, he missed out on being included in the 26-player roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and hasn’t been called up since.

Ben loves sports so much but prefers watching other people do it. He prefers not to share what teams he's supporting but he is willing to admit that Lebron James is, in fact, the king.
