U.S.-Born Espanyol Winger Luca Koleosho Accepts Canada Call-Up

The United States men’s national team recently secured commitments from several young talents including Rodrigo Pepi and Malik Tillman. However, it appears that Espanyol winger Luca Koleosho might not follow the same path. Koleosho recently accepted the call-up from Canada and is now set to represent America’s neighbors on the international stage in the feature.

Koleosho was born in the U.S. to a Nigerian father and mother of Italian-Canadian heritage. This made him eligible to play for four different nations. However, it was Canada that acted first, and the country appears to have the upper hand after including him on the senior team roster for the upcoming series of matches in June.

Despite the recent development, USMNT brass reportedly didn’t lose hope that they could convince Koleosho to change his mind. ESPN reports that sources close to the situation say that the 17-year-old player still isn’t 100 percent sure about his decision. He is expected to remove any doubts about his allegiance before the start of Canada’s international camp. Koleosho previously represented the U.S. at the youth level, making four appearances for United States U15.

Luca Koleosho spent his early youth career in the United States before moving to Spain in 2016. He spent time with Reus and Espanyol’s youth academies before signing his first professional contract with the Catalan club in the summer of 2021. He made his La Liga debut as a late substitute against Granada earlier this month.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
