22-year-old left-back Tyrell Malacia has joined Manchester United from Feyenoord, making him the Red Devils’ first signing in the summer transfer window, the club announced on Tuesday.

The deal, worth £13 million in addition to add-ons, will see the Dutch left-back join Man Utd on a four-year contract. The Premier League club decided to make a swoop for him right after Feyenoord agreed to a transfer sum offered by interested party Lyon. The player arrived at Old Trafford on Sunday, undergoing the second part of his medical the following morning.

“Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt. I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family,” Malacia stated following the announcement of his arrival.

Malacia departs his hometown club Feyenoord after appearing in more than 100 games for the Eredivisie side. He is expected to compete with Luke Shaw for a place in the starting eleven at left-back. Fellow left-back Alex Telles looks to be out of the running after the club expressed a willingness to listen to offers for the player.
