Stefanos Tsitsipas has secured his qualification for the upcoming ATP Finals by defeating Alexander Zverev 7-6 (2), 6-4 in the third round of the Paris Masters on Thursday. This is the Greek player’s first victory over a top-ten ATP player this year.
“What a great relief to finally get that spot,” Tsitsipas remarked after his victory. “I’ve been working extremely hard the whole year to be in Turin. I’m thrilled to be playing good tennis.” While Tsitsipas grabbed 37 winners to Zverev’s 28, he struggled near to take the first set, giving up a 3-0 lead and then failing to serve for the set when he was 5-0 up.
Djokovic also emerged victorious, beating Tallon Griekspoor 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 to widen the gap between himself and Carlos Alcaraz as he looks to secure the ATP world number one spot.
