Veteran center Tristan Thompson will be back with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2024-25 NBA season.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thompson is finalizing a one-year deal with the Cavs. He played in 49 games for Cleveland last season, averaging 3.3 points and 3.6 rebounds on a career-low 11.2 minutes per game.
While Thompson is far from a dominant presence in the paint, as he was in his early days in the NBA, he still provides the Cavs with a viable bench option as the team looks to build on last season’s success. Additionally, he is well respected by the franchise, having spent 10 out of his 13 seasons as a pro in Cleveland.
The Cavs selected Tristan Thompson with the fourth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft out of Texas. He immediately made an impact as a rookie, earning NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors and becoming the first Canadian to do so in the history of the NBA.
Thompson went on to establish himself as an important contributor to the Cavs team that made four consecutive NBA Finals appearances and won the NBA title in 2016.
After nine years with the Cavs, Thompson left the franchise ahead of the 2020–21 season and embarked on a journeyman part of his career. He would go on to suit up for the Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and the Los Angeles Lakers before returning to Cleveland last season.
