It is unusual for teams to get rid of their interim head coach, especially this late in the season. But that didn’t stop Tottenham Hotspur from firing interim boss Cristian Stellini on Monday.

Stellini is out after Tottenham suffered an embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday. The 48-year-old Italian took over on a temporary basis in late March after the club mutually agreed to part ways with Antonio Conte. Stellini was in charge for four games, recording one win, one tie, and two losses.

Tottenham announced Stellini’s departure through a statement issued by Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy. According to Levy, the team will be helmed by assistant Ryan Mason for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

“Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened, and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine, “said Levy in the statement.

Tottenham has endured a disappointing season that will most likely see them miss out on the UEFA Championship League spot. The London club is currently at No. 5 in Premier League, finding themselves six points behind Manchester United at No. 4 while playing two games more.

The club is currently believed to be in the midst of a search for a permanent manager to take over the club in the summer. Several names have been linked with the job, including ex-Barcelona and Spain head coach Luis Enrique and former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
