Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur has the option to buy the United States men’s national team and Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso, according to influential soccer reporter Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham reportedly agreed to €25 million buy option on Cardoso as part of the deal that saw the London club sell Argentine attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso to Betis back in the summer.

According to Romano, Tottenham will have to make a decision on Cardoso sooner rather than later, with the option being only valid until June 2025.

Selling Cardoso to Tottenham for the reported price would be a great piece of business for Betis, considering they only paid €6 million to acquire the player in 2023. Since joining Betis, Cardoso played 31 games and scored one goal alongside two assists. He has seen regular playing time this season, appearing in seven games, including four starts, in La Liga.

Johnny Cardoso was born in the United States to Brazilian parents. He moved to Brazil when he was three months old and started his professional soccer career there. Despite this, he opted to play for USMNT on international level. Cardoso had his debut for the senior team in 2020 and has since made 17 appearances.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
