The Champions League round of 16 couldn’t have started out much better for Tottenham Hotspur after they dominated Borussia Dortmund in a 3-0 victory on Wednesday night.

Spurs controlled their German opposition throughout the first leg of their draw on Wednesday night at Wembley Stadium, taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the draw with their win.

The first half was actually quite uneventful for both sides on Wednesday evening, despite Spurs often looking like the more dominant side. No goals were scored in the first 45 minutes of the match, and the two teams went to the locker room at halftime still in search of a goal.

Things changed in the second half, however, when Tottenham began to assert its dominance.

Just two minutes into the second half, Spurs attacker Heung-Min Song was assisted by Jan Vertonghen on a brilliant vollied goal to put Spurs up 1-0.

Tottenham continued to control the match, and their big reward came just before the conclusion of the match.

Spurs scored two goals in quick succession between the 83rd and 86th minute of the match to slam the door on Dortmund and take a commanding advantage in the draw.

Defender Jan Vertonghen scored his first CL goal for Spurs to make it 2-0 in the 83rd minute, and then substitute Fernando Llorente scored a header on a corner kick in the 86th minute to make it 3-0.

The second leg will be played on Tuesday, March 5th in Dortmund.
