An unexpected reunion of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, the head coach-quarterback duo that won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, could occur in Las Vegas.
According to a recent report by Tashan Reed and Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Brady, who is now the minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, recently reached out to Belichick to gauge his interest in returning to the NFL. Brady reportedly believes that the Raiders need a culture change and that Belichick is the perfect person to make that happen while transforming the franchise into a winner.
However, the chances of Belichick taking the Raiders job seem slim. Russini also reported that Belichick currently has no interest in taking over an NFL team and remains focused on the University of North Carolina’s Tar Heels football program.
The Raiders just wrapped up another disappointing season that saw them finish 4-13 and miss out on the playoffs for the third straight year. They fired head coach Antonio Pierce after just one season and will be looking for their third permanent head coach in the last four seasons.
After parting ways with the Patriots at the end of the 2023 season, Belichick moved into broadcasting while waiting for a new opportunity to coach in the NFL. Apparently, that opportunity never came, and he opted to take the coaching gig with the Tar Heels in early December for what would be his first job in college football.
Just a month later, Belichick seems to be in high demand in the NFL. Besides the Raiders, several other NFL teams reached out to the former Patriots head coach to see if he would be interested in leaving the Tar Heels. Belichick can back out of his contract with UNC thanks to a $10 million buyout.
