New York Knicks are currently in search for a new head coach after firing Jeff Hornacek last week and might turn to TNT analyst Kenny Smith to fill the vacant position. According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, the Knicks will have an interview with Kenny Smith on Friday.

The sources around the league say that despite the interview call, Kenny Smith doesn’t have big chances to land the job due to lack of prior coaching experience. Smith, who earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in 1988 as a member of the Sacramento Kings, played 10 years in the NBA for six different teams. He managed to win two NBA championships with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995. After ending his professional basketball career, Kenny Smith turned to broadcasting and currently serves as an analyst on TNT’s Inside the NBA alongside Ernie Johnson Jr., Charles Barkley, and Shaquille O’Neal.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported last week that according to his sources, New York Knicks are looking into four candidates. Former Memphis Grizzlies coach David Fizdale, former Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson, and coach of the Toronto Raptors G-League affiliate, Toronto 905, Jerry Stackhouse will have interviews with the organization during this week.Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt, who currently coaches Darüşşafaka of the Turkish Super League, will interview with the Knicks during the next week.

Knicks president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry are also looking into other candidates, including their former coach Mike Woodson who currently serves as an assistant with LA Clippers.

New York Knicks fired Jeff Hornacek on April 12, 2018, after finishing the season with 29–53 record.
