The Tennessee Titans made a surprise trade on Wednesday, shipping away Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jurrell Casey to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a 7th round pick in the upcoming draft.

Casey, who at 30 years old is a nine-year veteran of the league, will try his luck away from Nashville for the first time in his career. The defensive tackle had spent the entirety of his career with the Titans prior to today’s news, having been drafted by the team in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Titans decided to move on from Casey despite 2019 being his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl campaign. He recorded 44 tackles and 5 sacks last season, anchoring the team’s interior pass rush.

Casey was especially impressive in the Titans’ AFC Divisional Playoff defeat of the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens, recording two sacks of star quarterback Lamar Jackson in his team’s upset win.

Now, with the Titans looking to clear salary and give playing time to 2019 first round pick Jefferey Simmons, they will move on.

Casey will now have the opportunity to pair up with elite pass rusher Von Miller in Denver, strengthening the rebuilding team’s defensive line. He is under contract through the 2022 season.
