Tennessee Titans’ left tackle Taylor Lewan managed to land the richest contract in NFL history for an offensive lineman when the guarantee and annual value are taken into consideration. According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Lewan signed a five-year, $80 million extension, with $50 million guaranteed. The deal was confirmed by the Titans as well, but the details were not disclosed.

Titans and Lewan have been working on a new deal for some time now, and both sides confirmed earlier this week that they are close to reaching an agreement. The player’s previous deal was set to expire after the 2018 season.

Before Lewan agreeing on a deal with Titans, New York Giants left tackle Nate Solder was the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman. Solder joined the Giants as a free agent, signing a four-year, $62 million contract in March.

Tennessee Titans selected Taylor Lewan with the 11th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. After struggling with injuries in his rookie season, Lewan entered 2015 as the team’s starting left tackle and never looked back. He particularly impressed in 2016 and 2017 seasons, earning consecutive Pro-Bowl selections. In both of these seasons, he was also named as one of the NFL Top 100 Players in an annual voting of all players in the league.
