Tennessee Titans and Pro Bowl Derrick Henry haven’t given up trying to work out a long-term contract. Titans’ general manager Jon Robinson told the media on Thursday that he recently had “positive conversations” with Henry’s representatives about an extension and that both sides want to “get something done.”

Henry was set to become a free agent this offseason, but the Titans opted to use a franchise tag, worth $10.2 million, that keeps the 26-year-old RB with the franchise at least for one more year. The two sides now have until July 15th to work out a long-term deal, and it appears that they are not prepared to waste time.

“We’re just continuing to work through things,” said Robinson. “The conversations have been positive between me and the reps there, and we’re just trying to find some common ground.”

Robinson added that the talks took place both this and last week, with further negotiations being scheduled down the line.

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Derrick is an important part of what we do, and we’re just trying to find the spot where we all need to be and where we all want to be,” he added.

Derrick Henry was an integral part of the Tennessee Titans’ surprising run road to the AFC Championship game last season. Henry finished the regular season with league-leading 303 touches, 1,540 rushing yards, and 16 touchdowns, which earned him his first Pro Bowl appearance alongside Second-Team All-Pro honors. He later added 446 rushing yards and two TDs in the playoffs.
