RB Leipzig’s talented striker Timo Werner will most likely play in Ethe Premier League next season. According to a number of reports, Werner is close to agreeing on a contract with Chelsea after the club activated his $62 million release clause.

Werner was linked to several high-profile clubs in the past, including Liverpool and Juventus, but Chelsea was first to make a move and attempt to bring the German to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea reportedly offered a contract worth $250,000 a week to the 24-year-old, and feel optimistic about their chances.

Chelsea was looking for a striker for some time now, and first identified Lyon’s Moussa Dembele as their main target. However, after learning that Werner might be interested in coming to London, they decided to shift their focus. They also had to act fast, as Werner’s release clause is expiring on June 15th and he would most certainly be a lot more expensive after that.

Chelsea was also linked with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the past, but the transfer is unlikely if Werner accepts to join the club.

Timo Werner emerged as one of the best young strikers in Europe in recent years. Since joining RB Leipzig in 2016, Werner played a total of 154 games with the club and scored 92 goals. He never had a season with less than 19 goals. Werner has been playing with the German national team since 2017 and has scored 11 times in 29 games.
