Bayern Munich and head coach Thomas Tuchel will go their separate ways at the end of the 2023-24 season. The club confirmed the decision through an official announcement made on Wednesday.

According to the club’s statement, the two sides had an “open, good conversation” during which they came to a “mutual” decision to end their collaboration in the summer. Tuchel will be out of contract at the end of the season.

“We have agreed that we will end our collaboration after this season,” Tuchel added. “Until then, I and my coaching team will of course continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success.”

Tuchel took over Bayern in March 2023, replacing under-pressure manager Julian Nagelsmann. He successfully guided the club to yet another Bundesliga title, their eleventh in a row.

This season, however, Bayern has struggled to keep their dominance in the domestic league despite the big-time summer acquisition of star striker Harry Kane. They are currently second in the Bundesliga, trailing the leading Bayer Leverkusen by eight points after 22 matches. They also failed to win the German Super Cup and were eliminated from the DFB Pokal by Saarbrucken, a third-tier club.

Bayern is already making plans for the future, with several high-profile names being on their list of potential replacements for Tuchel. The current favorite to take over is Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, while the list also includes Jose Mourinho, Zinedine Zidane, and Antonio Conte.
