Thierry Henry’s time as the head coach of CF Montreal has come to an end.  The MLS team announced on Thursday that Henry stepped down from the position, bringing his stint with the club to an end after one year.

According to Montreal’s official statement, Henry made the decision “due to family reasons.”

Henry echoed the same in his statement, saying that “the ongoing restrictions” are keeping him from seeing his children.

“It is with a heavy heart that I’ve decided to take this decision,” said Henry. “The separation is too much of a strain for me and my kids. Therefore, it is with much sadness that I must take the decision to return to London and leave CF Montréal.”

The news comes just days after Henry was linked with a vacant managerial spot with FC Bournemouth. He ended up missing on the job as the Championship side gave interim manager Jonathan Woodgate confidence until the end of the season.

Thierry Henry took over Montreal ahead of the 2020 season and guided the club to No. 9 in the Eastern Conference. This was a better performance than many expected, especially since the club sold two of their best players in Ignacio Piatti and Saphir Taider before the start of the season.

Montreal was also close to making the playoffs but couldn’t get over the New England Revolution. The game was tied at 1-1 deep into stoppage time before Gustavo Bou scored in the 95th and gave New England the win.
