How long exactly does it take to knock a man unconscious, assuming that the man in question is a highly-trained professional fighter and that you will only use your body to knock him out?

Well, if these UFC fights are anything to go by, the answer to that question is, “Not very long at all.”

These are the fastest 5 knockouts in the history of UFC and if you’d have blinked during the matches, you’d have missed them.

Don Frye Knocks Out Thomas Ramirez (8 Seconds)

8 seconds was the time it took Don Frye to knock Thomas Ramirez clean out during the UFC 8 tournament season. Now while that’s fast, it’s only the 5th fastest knockout on record.

However, it was quite fast enough for Ramirez. He left the ring after this match and never returned to it. Apparently, he found another profession where being beaten unconscious wasn’t part of the contract.

James Irvin Takes Out Houston Alexander (8 Seconds)

4th place was only fractionally faster than 5th. However, it was a major surprise to the fans. James Irvin and Houston Alexander were both famed for their ability to trade and take punches. The expectation when they both met in 2008’s UFC Fight Night 13 was that this would be a long bout.

What happened instead was that Irvin came out of his corner and laid a massive blow on Alexander which knocked him straight onto his back where he stayed for the count.

Chan Sung Jung K.Os Mark Hominick (7 Seconds)

The underdog wasn’t hanging around during the UFC 140 fight in December 2011. Mark Hominick was on his home ground and widely fancied to hand Chan Sung Jung a beating. Sadly for Hominick, the underdog hadn’t read the script.

He jumped straight into the action and before Mark Hominick had even registered what was going on, he was out cold. Proving it’s better to celebrate winning after you’ve won than before the fight.

Ryan Jimmo’s One Punch Sees Off Anthony Perosh (7 Seconds)

There are brutal fights and then there’s the demise of Anthony Perosh in the 2012 UFC 149. Perosh was no pushover, and had a history of good fights and a strong record of winning them and the match was a fair one.

However, Ryan Jimmo wasn’t intimidated by Perosh’s record and one punch sent him hurtling to the mat. He was unconscious even before he reached the ground. Game over.

Todd Duffee Brutalizes Tim Hague (7 Seconds)

Sherdog

There’s only 1/100th of a second in it, but the fastest knockout of all time is Todd Duffee’s demolition of Tim Hague. It happened at the UFC 102 tournament.

Tim Hague wasn’t happy about the way the fight had started. He felt Duffee had disrespected him by turning down the usual match kick off ritual of touching gloves. He let his anger get the better of him and rushed in wildly to deal with Duffee. Duffee smashed him to the ground with a single punch and the fight was over.
