The Texas Rangers announced on Friday that the franchise signed general manager Chris Young to a new multi-year extension.
Young, who put together the roster that won the World Series in 2023, also officially got promoted to President of Baseball Operations. He served in this role on an interim basis since Jon Daniels left the franchise in 2022.
Young, who received his MLB debut with the Rangers as a player, took over as general manager ahead of the 2021 season following several executive roles with the league. At the time, the Rangers were on a four-year playoff drought.
Although the Rangers didn’t have an immediate turnaround under Young, the team improved in the following two years while several star players like Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Nathan Eovaldi joined the clubhouse. He also managed to lure manager Bruce Bochy, a three-time World Series winner at the time, out of retirement.
In 2023, Young’s vision of the Rangers broke out by winning 90 games in the regular season and embarking on a postseason run that saw them win their first World Series.
“Chris Young’s impact on the Texas Rangers organization has been immense over the last four years,” Rangers owner Ray Davis said in a team-released statement. “His leadership and vision were instrumental in helping bring a World Series championship to Arlington for the first time, and he is passionate about producing a consistent winner on the field year in and year out for our fans.”
