Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is working hard to successfully recover from a torn ACL that cut his rookie season in half. The 22-year-old talked with reporters on Wednesday and discussed his recovery progress, saying he has met all the goals he had at the beginning of the offseason.

The knee is doing good,” – said Watson. “I’m able to do some things on the field with the team, physical-wise. For the nine-week goal that we put in from the beginning, I’m pretty much where I want to be. I’m kinda past it inside in the weight room, mentally, and also on the field. So everything’s going smoothly right now.

While Watson said he is pleased with the progress he made so far, he still thinks he could do better.

I feel like I can be better and will get better,” – he added. “But like you said, those nine weeks, I’ve gained a lot on and off the field — mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually — and being able to take my game, and just me as a person, to another level.

Deshaun Watson was selected by the Houston Texans with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, and initially supposed to serve as a backup for Tom Savage. Still, he got the taste of NFL action in Week 1 already, when Savage got benched at the halftime. Watson was promoted to the starting QB position for Week 2 and immediately led the Texans to a win. In the following weeks, he broke or tied several franchise and NFL rookie records, including having the longest streak of games with 3 or more passing touchdowns by a rookie in NFL history with 4.

Unfortunately, Deshaun Watson’s phenomenal rookie season come to an end in November, after he tore his ACL on a non-contact play during practice. In 7 games he played in 2017 season, Watson had a completion percentage of 61.8, passing for 1,699 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also rushed for 269 yards and had two rushing touchdowns.
