The Tennessee Titans have decided to move on from veteran wide receiver Adam Humphries. The team confirmed the news on social media on Thursday.

The Titans’ move was motivated by salary cap savings as the team looks to get cap-compliant before the start of the new league year next month. By releasing Humphries, they saved around $4.47 million in cap space, according to reports.

Tennessee shouldn’t miss Humphries all that much, considering they have a good WR core consisting of talented rookies and reliable veterans. This includes Pro Bowler A. J. Brown and 2015’s No. 5 pick Corey Davis.

Adam Humphries joined Tennessee in 2019 on a four-year, $36 million contract and was viewed as a long-term solution at the wideout position at the time. But injuries and the lack of production saw him rapidly fall down on the depth chart.

In his first season with the Titans, Humphries had 37 receptions for 374 yards and two touchdowns. He followed this up with 228 yards and two TDs in 2020 while missing half of the season due to COVID-19 and a concussion.

Before joining the Titans, Humphries spent the first four years of his pro career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played college football at Clemson.
