Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed disappointment in his team’s attitude following their elimination from the UEFA Europa League at the hands of Sevilla on Thursday night. After drawing the first leg at Old Trafford 2-2, the Red Devils were thumped 3-0 by Sevilla to mark a 5-2 aggregate win for the La Liga team.

Both goalkeeper David de Gea and center-back Harry Maguire were at fault for costly mistakes that led to goals for the opposition, however, ten Hag took issue during a news conference with what he considered the team’s lack of fight on the night.

“I have to acknowledge [the lack of fight] it’s the truth, it’s hard, it’s tough, it’s the truth and it can’t be — it’s unacceptable,” ten Hag commented. “We showed in the past we can quickly bounce back, we have done it many times this season but we have to start games better, more desire, more composure on the ball. When you get the setback you have to deal with it and carry on.”

The Red Devils will need to bounce back quickly from their resounding defeat as they gear up to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup semifinals at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
