Team USA secured a spot in the next stage of the 2022 Hockey World Championship. The Americans got in after finishing fourth in Group A and will face undefeated Switzerland in the quarterfinals.

Despite not being given much chance due to the absence of NHL stars, Team USA still delivered a great performance on the group stage. They had three wins, two overtime wins, and only two losses. Even the goal difference (6+) went in their favor as they finished fifth-best among 16 teams.

Team USA will enter the Switzerland matchup after a dominant performance against Norway in the last game of the group stage. Despite already being through thanks to Latvia’s loss, David Quinn’s team took care of the business and got a 4-2 win.

However, beating Norway is one thing. Doing the same against Switzerland should be a lot different. The Swiss team has put the hockey world on notice by cruising throughout Group A. They finished as the tournament’s only undefeated team and have a scary +19 goal difference.

Other matchups of the quarterfinals will see hosts Finland taking on Slovakia, Germany playing the Czech Republic, and Sweden facing Canada. All matches are scheduled to take place on May 26.
