Team USA delivered a dominant performance on the group stage of the basketball tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After three wins and a 64-plus point differential from three games, Team USA will enter the quarterfinals as the No. 1 seed.

Team USA secured the top-seeded status with a 104-83 win over Puerto Rico on Saturday. Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards took the spotlight, scoring 26 points off the bench in just 17 minutes on the floor.

Five other Team USA players were in double digits, including Jayson Tatum, who scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds, and LeBron James, who made an all-around contribution with 10 points, eight assists, and six boards. Joel Embiid had a bounce-back game with 15 points after struggling in the opener against Serbia and sitting out the game against South Sudan.

In its first three games at the tournament, Team USA has been beating its opponents with an average of 21 points.

Team USA, aiming for its fifth consecutive and 17th overall gold medal at the Olympics, will play its next game on Thursday. Its quarterfinal opponent will be Brazil, which finished third in Group B with one win out of three games. Brazil’s national basketball team has three bronze medals at the Olympics, the most recent being from 1964.
