The Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has agreed to a $42 million, three-year extension, the team confirmed on Saturday. This deal includes a guaranteed $26.5 million and makes Taylor one of the highest-paid running backs in the league.

“I greatly appreciate the support of my teammates and Colts fans,” Taylor publicly announced after signing the extension. “I can’t wait to get back on the field and do everything I can to help bring this city the championship it deserves. I’m proud to be an Indianapolis Colt.”

Taylor’s decision to accept the Colts’ contract extension comes after months of animosity, with Colts owner Jim Irsay, general manager Chris Ballard, director of football administration Mike Bluem entering intense negotiations with the player’s representatives, Malki Kawa and Ethan Lock. Ultimately, the team decided that the 24-year-old was worth the effort, given his raw potential.
