The Tampa Bay Rays just can’t stop winning in 2023. The Rays got a 7-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night, remaining perfect to start the season and improving to an 11-0 record.

The Rays are now closing in on the record for most wins to start the MLB season. The only two teams that had a better start than Tampa Bay are the Milwaukee Brewers in 1987 and the Atlanta Braves in 1982, who each started 13-0.

Starter Shane McClanahan delivered a strong performance against the Red Sox, having a 1.59 ERA and nine strikeouts in five innings. Yandy Diaz had three hits and one home run, while Brandon Lowe, Josh Lowe, and Isaac Paredes also added homers to keep the Rays’ hot streak going.

“It’s unbelievable. Everyone kind of wrote us off about our offense,” McClanahan said after the game. “But we believe in these guys, and they are showing why we believe in them. It’s been awesome.”

Tampa Bay’s batters already have 29 home runs for the season, which is tied for most through 11 games in major league history. The only team that had as many across the same number of games are the St. Louis Cardinals, who achieved the feat in 2000.

The Tampa Bay Rays will have a chance to continue their winning streak on Wednesday when they face Boston Red Sox again on their Tropicana Field.
