Chelsea now has talented striker Tammy Abraham under contract for one additional year and they didn’t even have to negotiate.

Abraham scored a goal in the 3-2 win against Crystal Palace last week, which meant he now has 16 goals in 2019/20. Reaching the mark activated a clause in his deal, setting off an automatic extension until 2023. The 22-year-old striker reportedly also received a pay-rise as part of the package.

This represents great news for Chelsea, as the club now has more time before having to negotiate a long-term deal with England international. Abraham was previously set to become a free agent in 2022, and the preliminary talks with the London club about a new contract reportedly didn’t go well.

Tammy Abraham has been enjoying a prolific campaign with Chelsea early in the season, scoring impressive 15 goals by January. Since then, however, he has struggled to find the net and was goalless in 10 games before scoring against Palace.

Abraham is a product of Chelsea’s academy and has previously played on loans with Bristol City, Swansea City, and Aston Villa. He also has four call-ups and one goal for England’s national team.
