Talented French center back Dayot Upamecano won’t be leaving Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig, this summer after all. Despite being linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months, Upamecano inked a new deal with Leipzig and committed to the club until 2023.

Upamecano’s previous contract ran was set to expire next season, and it was unclear whether the two sides can reach an agreement. At one point, the team’s sporting director Oliver Mintzlaff told the 21-year-old Frenchman that he will be sold if he doesn’t re-sign soon.

Upamecano elected to stay, and it appears he’s happy with his choice.

“I feel right at home here in Leipzig—the overall package is perfect,” said Upamecano. “Our young and hungry team is part of an ambitious club. I want to take the next step with Leipzig and reach our aims, because I’m convinced by the way we play our football.”

Thanks to his stellar performances in recent years, Dayot Upamecano was linked with several high-profile clubs in recent months. He was reportedly one of the main targets for Arsenal, with London club having several of their offers rejected in the past. Also, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich had rumored interests in the French youth international.

Upamecano arrived in Leipzig in 2017 from the Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg. Since then, he became one of the key pieces in club’s back four while making 111 appearances in all competitions.
