AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic made history during his team’s 3-1 loss to Udinese on Saturday by becoming the oldest goalscorer in Serie A history at 41 years and 166 days. He surpassed the previous record set by Alessandro Costacurta in 2007 by 141 days.

Udinese was eager to use their home-ground advantage to gain the edge over Milan, playing an aggressive, fast-flowing form of attacking football that resulted in Roberto Pereyra grabbing the opening goal in the ninth minute.

In first-half stoppage time, Milan got the opportunity to pull themselves back into the game when they were awarded a penalty following a handball inside the box. While Ibrahimovic missed the initial spot kick, the penalty was ordered to be retaken due to encroachment, with Ibrahimovic scoring the second time around.

Milan’s celebrations were short-lived, however, as Udinese restored their lead two minutes later when Beto scored six minutes into stoppage time. With both sides struggling to find the back of the net in the second half, it was ultimately Udinese who scored again in the 70th minute when an unmarked Kingsley Ehizibue tapped in a goal from close range.

Although LA Galaxy’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic is arguably MLS’ biggest star, this status still doesn’t help him avoid fines handed by the league. MLS’ Disciplinary Committee announced on Friday that Ibrahimovic is fined for “simulation/embellishment.” The amount that the Swedish forward will have to give up remained undisclosed.

The incident happened in the first half of Galaxy’s 3-1 loss to Columbus Crew when Ibrahimovic tried to trick the referee into getting a penalty kick. The 37-year-old was trying to get to ball in the penalty area, but when Crew’s goalie Zack Steffen got to it first, he decided to dive although there was no contact between him and Steffen.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been playing exceptionally so far in the season, showing that his great form in 2018 wasn’t a coincidence. He played nine MLS games in 2019 and scored nine goals, two less than league-leading LAFC’s Carlos Vela, while providing two assists.
