LA Galaxy’s striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic had an amazing first season in MLS, managing to score 22 goals and provide six assists in only 27 games he played in 2018. Now, the 37-year-old is ready to take things one step further.

Ibrahimovic recently made an appearance during the unveiling of Galaxy’s new kit and told reporters that he intends to “break every record in MLS” this season.

“This season I will bring something for you,” – said Ibrahimovic. “Because they say I’m old, I am looking to break every record in MLS this season.”

After 2018 season wrapped up, there was a lot of talks that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could leave LA Galaxy and return to Europe with Seria A giants Milan being among the interested teams. One of the reasons for this, besides his wish to compete at the highest level, was the fact that he has outplayed his $1.5 million contract.

Ibrahimovic was willing to stay in the United States but only if the club agreed to offer him a bigger salary. Galaxy ended up giving him the Designated Player money, hoping they will get back to being a contender once again.

“After one season in MLS, I know it more now, I know things better” – said Ibrahimovic in a recent interview with CNN. “And I’m excited, I look forward just to start playing again … because I like the MLS after playing one year there, and the first season was like what is waiting, what will happen, how is it, which level it is, and all these things. But now I have everything in my head, so now I just go out on the field and I dominate.”

It looks like Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s magic will live on in Los Angeles. Although he was linked with a return to Europe in the last couple of weeks, Ibra will now resign from the LA Galaxy as a Designated Player according to The Athletic. This won’t be the only deal Galaxy will pull off this week, since the team is expected to appoint Caleb Porter as their new head coach.

Although he signed a two-year deal with Galaxy in March 2018, Zlatan Ibrahimovic largely outplayed his $1.5 million a year contract, scoring 22 goals and providing 10 assists in 27 games. After the end of the 2018 season, Ibrahimovic asked for a raise and even considered joining Seria A powerhouse Milan if his demands are not met.

Los Angeles ended up giving Ibra Designated Player money, but are now facing with another tough decision. Since MLS teams can have only three DP players, Galaxy will have to move on from either Gio dos Santos, Jonathan dos Santos, or Romain Alessandrini before the season starts.

After considering several high-profile names, LA Galaxy decided to turn to Caleb Porter as their next coach. Porter previously served as the coach of Portland Timbers from 2013 to 2017, winning one MLS Cup in the process. He and Timbers mutually parted ways following the end of the 2017 season.

Porter previously had offers from several MLS teams, including Orlando City SC, but decided to turn them down, waiting for the right opportunity.

When Zlatan Ibrahimovic signed with LA Galaxy, most people expected that the 36-year-old striker will play for several years in Los Angeles and end his career there. But it looks like Ibra isn’t quite sure that he wants to spend the next season at Galaxy.

I don’t know. This I have to discuss,” – Ibrahimovic told reporters on Sunday when asked about his future. “This is not the moment to talk about that. It’s something I’ll discuss with the club. What they want, what I want. So let’s see.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sensational in his debut season with LA Galaxy, scoring 17 goals in 22 games so far. But, his goals didn’t translate to many wins and Galaxy now finds itself struggling to make the playoffs. This is something Ibra isn’t accustomed to.

It’s a different challenge,” – he said. “The team I played for [before], I had that feeling like we were unbeatable. Nobody can destroy us. We will destroy everybody.”

While Ibrahimovic has another year left on his deal with Galaxy, his stay will depend in large of his salary next season. He is earning $1.5 million this year; a figure he believes is too small for his production and will undoubtedly demand a raise.

In case that Galaxy isn’t willing to honor his request, Ibra could head back to his native Sweden. According to reports, he already has an offer to return to Malmo; the team he made his professional debut for.

Los Angeles Galaxy star Zlatan Ibrahimovic isn’t too happy about the fact that he was suspended for last weekend after skipping MLS All-Star game. The fact that Galaxy lost 1-2 to Colorado Rapids made things just worse, and Ibra decided to speak out publicly about his disagreement with league’s policy.

I think it is ridiculous, but yeah, no comments,” – the 36-year-old striker said. “They do whatever they want. I come from a different world, I come from the real world. It is what it is. I respect in the end, and I’m sorry for my teammates only that I could not help them in the game. But yeah, people are interested in different things. They lose on it, and for me it doesn’t matter.”

According to MLS rules, players who are selected for MLS All-Star Game and fail to participate are required to sit out one game. This rule was initiated in order to encourage players to show up in these games.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic decided to miss the 2018 MLS All-Star Game because he played in three matches in nine days for his club and was tired. Besides him, New York City FC’s David Villa also missed the game and served a suspension although he was dealing with an injury.

After serving his suspension, Ibrahimovic will be on coach Sigi Schmid’s disposal for the Saturday’s clash against Minnesota United.
