Most people find it strange to see baseball games being played without fans at stadiums, but not Houston Astros ace Zack Greinke. As it turns out, Greinke enjoys playing in front of empty stands.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Greinke said that “it’s nice” not having fans at baseball games.

“I don’t really notice fans when the game’s going on, but warming up and practice before games, I mean, for me it’s nice not having fans in the stands,” said Greinke. “Most people like it. When the game comes on, it’s the same for me.”

According to Greinke, he enjoys not having to talk to fans or take pictures with them.

“It’s nice not having them, for me,” he added. “Most people like it. I don’t like it.”

While empty stands made Zack Greinke feel better, this didn’t do much for his game. He finished the regular season with a 3-3 record, 4.03 ERA, and 67 strikeouts. In two postseason starts, Greinke has seven strikeouts and a 4.98 ERA.

MLB played its entire 60-game regular-season schedule without fans while also keeping the empty stands for the better part of the season. The fans returned to the stadium for National League Championship Series and will also be allowed to World Series.

No team has ever come back from 3-0 in the World Series and the Houston Astros didn’t want to be the first team to try to do that. Behind clutch hitting and great pitching from Zack Greinke and the bullpen, they made winning the series much more doable by putting the series at 2-1.

After leading the majors with 107 wins and putting together one of the most complete teams in baseball history, Houston looked very beatable in Games 1 and 2 with Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander losing at home.

While Houston made a couple of critical fielding errors and couldn’t hit with runners in scoring position in the first 2 games, it was Washington who copied those mistakes in Game 3. Juan Soto, celebrating his 21st birthday, made a couple of defensive miscues, and the Nats went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12.

The Astros scored in 4 different innings behind Michael Brantley’s 2 RBIs and Robinson Chirinos’ home run off the left-field foul pole. They didn’t overpower the Nationals, but the first win in any series is critical, and the 4-1 win is enough to get the team back on track.

After losing the first World Series game in the nation’s capital since 1933, the Nats will look to take a 3-1 series lead behind prized free agent Patrick Corbin who is scheduled to start. The Astros will counter with rookie Jose Urquidy and probably go to their bullpen early in an effort to even up the series and send it back to Houston.

The Houston Astros pulled off a trade deadline shocker on Wednesday, completing a deal for Arizona Diamondbacks righty starter Zack Greinke.

Houston gave up a package include prospects Corbin Martin, J.B. Bukauskas, Seth Beer, and Joshua Rojas in exchange for the All-Star starter.

It’s a heavy prospect load in order to acquire the eccentric righty, but Houston didn’t think twice about pulling the trigger on a deal that brings the franchise yet another front-line starter.

The Astros will now march towards the playoffs with a rotation that features former Cy Young Award winners Justin Verlander and Greinke as well as a three-time All-Star in Gerrit Cole. It’s an enviable pitching trio and one that no other team in baseball can match, at least on paper.

Greinke, who is now 35 years old, has been excellent this season. In 23 starts, he’s pitched 146 innings and has accumulated a 10-4 record with a 2.90 ERA. He’s been a master of control, walking only 21 batters while striking out 135.

The only possible worry that the Astros will now have upon acquiring Greinke is his fat contract. The right-hander has been worth every penny of it so far, but he’s still owed $70 million over the next two seasons.

For now, though, the Astros will simply revel in the fact that they’ve added one of baseball’s best players at the trade deadline as they attempt to win their second world series since 2017.
